In years past, as it approached the Christmas Season, everyone was really busy, and unable to attend, so we usually just called my High School Small Group off. But, this year things are different, and I have a firm commitment from several students who want to meet the week just before Christmas day. Just to complicate things, this Sunday I’m running sound all morning for a service my students won’t attend. This makes it really hard to prepare a discussion centered around Sunday’s topics when I don’t even get to know what lessons they’ve been presented.
In what would otherwise be an unrelated topic, I recently learned that my Small Group students are big fans of fire. I guess its kinda silly of me to have not realized this earlier, this is after all my third year running one.
Convergence -or- Punt, you decide.
So, I’m going to prepare a light discussion on some as yet unknown topic, probably relating to Christmas. But, I’m going to distract them with fire! That’s right: I’ve built a fire pit in the back yard! Complete with benches and seating for about 8. Jonathan had a bunch of lumber in the yard from one of his projects that I chopped up Saturday morning. About the only thing left is to arrive at a good method of cleaning up the ashes.
As an aside, we meet on Wednesday evenings, and it just so happens that my birthday falls on this Wednesday. Honestly, I can’t think of a way I would rather spend my birthday. I’m looking forward to it.
