I was recently forced to start using Code Warrior recently, and I suddenly had an epiphany about Dr. Suess. For those who don’t know, Code Warrior is ported from a Macintosh.
The other day, as I watched a friend use a 3D graphic program called Brice, I thought it looked really cool. I tried to play with it myself, but quickly discovered that the user interface was completely weird. At the time, I wondered what the makers were smoking when they developed it, but ultimately figured I didn’t really care, and just gave up.
A little while later, I discovered that the application was originally developed on a Mac, and this was just the PC port. Now I had a clue what they were smoking.
Then it hit me! Macs (or Mac developers, anyway) are the Dr. Suess of the programming world. I mean, consider, isn’t Brice what an application would look like if it was designed by Dr. Suess?
While, as a child, I enjoyed Dr. Suess stories, I’ve since grown up (although, I suppose, some would disagree in my case and say I’ve only grown older). Anyway, I wonder when Mac applications will grow up?
